Adams was already a history maker before the bout had even begun for taking part in the first ever women?s Olympic boxing final ? and from the outset she rose to the occasion. Adams?s Chinese opponent came into the bout as reigning world champion and number one. But the Briton never took a backward step from the start ? winning the first round 4-2 and flooring her opponent in the second with a clubbing right, stretching her lead on the cards. In the third she continued to build on her advantage and her energy was unstoppable in the final round as she powered to the gold medal, which was confirmed when the score was announced to a delirious crowd.
