For a more comprehensive idea of the primary data, and to give the overall research paper more weight, an introductory paragraph for all the three pharmaceutical companies has been cited in relevance to the academic survey questionnaire, starting with American pharmaceutical company, Johnson & Johnson.

Johnson & Johnson: Johnson & Johnson is a global American pharmaceutical and consumer goods manufacturing company that was founded in the year 1886. The company is frequently listed among the Fortune 500 and was recently ranked as the world?s most respected company by Barron?s Magazine (Santoli, M., 2008). The company currently employs a total of 119,200 workers, including the employees in the management strata. The company?s main area of specialization is the manufacturing of health care products, pharmaceuticals and other related medical devices. As of 2007, the company?s operating income amounted to $13.283 billion with a net income of $10.576 billion (Johnson & Johnson, 2009). The company has done business all over the world. Moreover, it holds subsidiaries in almost every major city of the world. The company has also been regularly outsourcing its services to outsourcing destinations that meet their demands. In 2007, Convergys, an Indian based outsourcing firm, was selected to provide human resources outsourcing services for the Johnson & Johnson under a 10 year deal was worth over $1 billion (BR., 2007).

GlaxoSmithKline: GlaxoSmithKline is a U.K. based pharmaceutical, biological and healthcare company. GSK is the world?s second largest pharmaceutical, biological and a research based industry company. The GSK was formed in the year 2000, by the merger of GlaxoWellcome and SmithKilne Beecham. Through the responses in they survey it was learnt that the company currently employs approximately 103,000 employees. The company?s main area of specialization is pharmaceutical. As of 2008, the operating income of GSK amounted to 8,259 million pounds. In 2007, the GSK also signed an outsourcing deal with Tata Consulting Services (also an Indian outsourcing outfit) to establish a facility supporting drug development in Mumbai.

Novartis: Novartis International AG, a multinational pharmaceutical company is based in Basel, Switzerland. With its annual revenues that amount to over $42 billion, it is one of the world?s largest healthcare and pharmaceutical company. In the year 2008, the company employed 96,700 employees. The operating income of the company for the year 2008 was $8.96 million and the net income that the company was able to generate at the end of the 2008 fiscal year amounted to $8.16 billion (Annual Report, 2008). In 2007, Novartis also signed a contract deal with the India-based Genpact, who provide the Swiss giant with support in purchasing and accounting activities (Reymond, E., 2007)? ????

The majority of the respondents who forwarded their responses were within the age group 36-50 all of them mostly residing in US and Europe. Since this survey was targeted to the employees of pharmaceutical companies, health care was cited as the company?s primary business. For the Question no.7, all 314 respondents ticked on the option A, that is their company being a manufacturer. For Question no. 8 that asked the respondents where their company had done business in the past, 98 of the respondents cited the US, 68 Europe, 36 Canada, 44 Asia,?? 12 Australia, 18 Africa and 9 Middle East. As for the next query inquiring whether their organisation had outsourced their business processes before, 151 said yes, while 39 went with option B (No, no at this time) and 110 with option C (No, no at this time, but seriously thinking about it.
