Bear Steals iPad, Food at San Bernardino Lake (VIDEO)

SAN BERNARDINO (KTLA) -- A bear came a bit too close for comfort as families tried to enjoy their weekend at a lake in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Jesse Dinkel, who captured the video Saturday and sent it to KTLA, said he was fishing by himself at the crowded Jenks Lake.

Earlier in the day, the bear managed to run off with a backpack that contained an iPad, Dinkel said.
But he figured it was safe to return to the shore, this time rummaging through a family's belongings on a picnic table.

The video shows families stunned and slowly walking away, making noises to distract the bear.

"It was crazy," Dinkel said. "He was really not shy."

He then grabbed a tupperware full of food before retreating back to the woods.

Dinkel said park employees did come to the shore to investigate, but after finding no sign of the bear, didn't ask patrons to leave.

Forrest officials say bear sightings are quite common at Jenks Lake and that any sighting "wouldn't be anything stunning."

And as for the guy whose backpack and iPad were stolen? The goods were nowhere to be found.

"Try getting the insurance company to believe that," Dinkel said.
